colorful excess

Confession: this outfit is a repeat, or should I say three-peat? I've worn it twice in the past two months...and purposely didn't photograph it just so I could wear it again. :D Orange and fuchsia/magenta is one of my favorite color combinations, and since I don't have many clothes of either color, I have to take it where I can. It's a slightly out there combo, as I usually prefer to pair warmer shades with cooler ones, but oddly enough, I find that it works. Here's another outfit in which I wore orange and fuchsia together.

After class, Angie and I went to the food court at Macquarie shopping center to get a snack. We'd planned on being sophisticated and having tea and scones at T2, but the weather got the best of us and we ended up at McDonald's with a frozen coke and McFlurry. How grown-up of us, right?

sweater tee

Top: Temt
Skirt: Revival, Clear It factory outlet
Shoes: Nine West, Nine West Outlet (Melbourne)

I've been waiting to wear this sweater tee for weeks! I found it on the clearance rack for $6.95, which it was an absolute dream come true (I know, I know, my dreams are limitless in ambition and scope!). I'd been looking for something like this for the longest time after being inspired by the whole '50s sweater girl look. I think it'd be amazing paired with a full skirt!

In other outfit-related news, I wore these wedges for a full eight hours today, from 9am-5pm. They're surprisingly comfortable for 5-inchers, but by the end of the day my feet were in agony. The walk home from the bus stop is a steep downward slope, and in pained desperation, I trekked it backwards. Sweet relief! :D

Oh, the things I do for fashion...

Outtake: one of the (many) hazards of taking pictures in very public locations...

Dress: Motel, thrifted

These pictures are official proof that, why yes, I do wear bright pink lipstick and giant platforms to uni! They were taken just outside the campus courtyard, where it's spectacularly busy now that classes have started, and due to what I've dubbed, in my mind, "ambush week" -- being accosted by enthusiastic strangers trying to sell you membership to whatever club they're representing.

It's not the very best locations for a photoshoot, though. There's a constant stream of people walking in every direction, and we had an unfortunate (but hilarious) incident in which a guy on a bike flew through between us; it was very conveniently caught on camera.

I think there'll be many more on-campus outfit shoots in the future -- I'm going to grab every chance I can to avoid having to use my weak and wonky tripod, so get ready to become intimately familiar with Macquarie University. :D

white wall

Top: Old Navy (USA)
Skirt: thrifted
Shoes: Jeffrey Campbell, Solestruck

Taking these pictures this morning, I realized two very important things: that I will never be a white-wall blogger...and that no matter how much tweaking I do, my bangs will never as straight or perfect as I want them to be.

Half the roads in my neighborhood are currently closed due to construction so I couldn't visit my usual photoshoot haunts, and I didn't even consider going into the backyard (I guess I'm still jaded from having taken seven months worth of outfit photos there), and since every inch of my bedroom walls are almost suffocatingly poster-filled, I ended up in my parents' room for some blessed white wall. But apparently it's not enough space for a portrait shot. Oh well, lesson learned, I suppose. I'm just not meant to be a white-wall style blogger (not that I'm complaining). :)

Wow, my first post in a week! I really should put myself on a more regular schedule in regards to blogging, but my outfits lately haven't really been worth photographing. I worn jeans twice in the past 10 days! Me, who's been known to go leave my jeans in the closet for months at a time...

But the good new is, uni starts next week, so from then, I'll be blogging a lot more frequently. I have a number of recent finds squirreled away and so many potential outfits dreamed up in my head... I can't wait to share them! :)

As you can tell in the pictures, I've redone my hair! I was long overdue for a dye-job, and I like to give myself a trim before I do that -- this serves two purposes: it gets rid of the fried bits, and, it's less dye that I have to use. But, as always, I cut off more than I intended, so now it's a little shorter than I prefer. The same thing happened the last time I gave myself a haircut, and I remedied that by pin-curling and crazy-volumizing it for a couple weeks, until it grew back a little and I stopped having the hairstyle of a 5-year-old. And so that's what I'll be doing for the next few weeks. :D

history

Apologies for the absence! I haven't felt like taking outfit photos recently -- in the past week we've been hit by the most absolutely massive heat wave. For the last week, temperatures never dipped below 35/95 even at night, and Saturday was the hottest day of the year; some areas experienced 50/122 degree heat! I can't even imagine how hot that would be...

But that's all over with now, and today I finally wore something worth taking pictures. :D

I've been making more of an effort to wear the clothes that haven't seen the light of day in a long, long time. For example, this top used to be one of my favorites and I wore it all the time, but somewhere along the line I decided that it wasn't my style, and chucked it in some corner. I don't think I've worn it at all since I moved to Australia, and that was 2.5 years ago! So I finally took it out today! I still love it. :)

And for your amusement, my yearbook photo from junior year (2007) in which I wore this top:

And I continued flipping through, and found the French Club photo.

The striped top I wore in this blog post.

I've been busy the last couple of days -- Angie and I opened up an Etsy store!

It's very small at the moment, but we're planning on listing more things in the near future.

And and and! Here's the result of a recent closet purge.

This is more about reclaiming my space rather than making money, which is why I've generally kept the prices low. Okay, that's a bit of a lie... it's just my attempt to pay for this semester's books without having to dip into my bank account. :)
