indulgent

Standing on tip-toes because I still haven't gotten used to the feeling of wearing flats again!

Stumbling upon a hobo's stash of worldly possessions: a sleeping bag, flip-flops, tissues, and a can of deodorant...!

Don't be fooled by my spring-y outfit, it was cold and wet and miserable today! Which was especially inconvenient because it was also the day of our walking tour of The Rocks with my Museum Studies class. The actual tour wasn't bad, but I could've done without the frequent periods of drizzle and wind, and I ended up keeping my umbrella in hand because in the end I got tired of the rain starting up again each time I got optimistic and put it back in my bag. :D

Another highlight: today was a total 'fat day' for me! I don't believe I even ate real meal-food the entire day. Our tour finished right across from Sticky, the most amazing hand-made candy shop. Needless to say, we got our greedy little paws on more than our fair share of samples, and Angie bought two pieces of offcuts (the leftovers), which were each the size of a human head. It was dirt cheap ($4 each!), and fun to gnaw on, haha!

After that, we further satisfied our sweet teeth with a visit to a French patisserie, where we were given free, slightly-broken, dark chocolate macaroons (absolutely delicious!), and then to Guylian for divine Belgian hot chocolate. Our next stop was Löwenbräu, a Bavarian pub, where the waitresses wore dirndl dresses and the waiters pranced about in lederhosen, complete with crotch flaps! And finally to Pancakes on The Rocks for a dessert of yummy potato wedges.

Even though my stomach is currently not thanking me for my somewhat excessive eating, it was absolutely worth it, because we all deserve to indulge a little every once in a while! I don't have fat days very often, but when I do, I definitely make the most of them. :D

Do you have fat days, where, foodwise, anything goes? What are your favorite foods to indulge on? :)

before an audience

Cardigan: Valleygirl
Skirt: Topshop, eBay
Tights: eBay
Shoes: Alchemy, thrifted

These photos were taken during our five-minute break in French class, so I didn't really have the very best pick of locations. Most of the campus is decidedly unattractive, with dull gray blocky buildings all stained with age and dampness. Only the more recently designed places (the new library, or the research facilities) have any sort of architectural uniqueness, but these state-of-the-art structures seem a little out of place among what's commonly considered an eyesore of a campus. I usually try to take pictures in the nicer (or at least somewhat less hideous :D) areas of uni, but today you get to see the reality. How generous am I? ;)

You know what's awkward? Having people watch you while you get your picture taken! I've gotten to the point now where I'm comfortable posing near strangers, but when it's people I know, it's always a bit uncomfortable having to explain about "my style blog" without sounding narcissistic or conceited. I've yet to have a random stranger come up and say to me, "I read your blog!" but I'm pretty sure the prospect of that happening is remote at best at the moment, so I'm not going to stress myself out about thinking of an adequate and non-awkward response.

Question time! For those with blogs, have people ever asked you what you're doing while you're taking outfit photos? How do/would you respond? I need tips haha! :D

bumming around

Photos by Angie

Sweater: SES
Jeans: American Eagle, TJ Maxx (USA)
Belt: vintage, thrifted
Shoes: Shellys

Why, of course, my idea of bumming around involves climbing brick walls in gorgeous and impractical heels! I actually wore Rabens (i.e. my house shoes), but I brought these heels along because Angie had leather-stretcher and these kill my toes. They were a total impulse purchase from a week ago -- within an hour of finishing a rather brutal assignment, I was online shopping and, upon spotting them, I immediately hit the 'order' button. I've been wearing them constantly to stretch them out, so hopefully I'll have a proper outfit post for them soon. :)

It feels so odd nowadays to look at pictures of myself without lipstick, because I never really noticed before how unpigmented my lips are! I look like I'm deathly ill, or I coated them in concealer, and, if the angle's right, I look like I have no lips. :D It's weird, haha.

I didn't originally intend for this (non-)outfit to be photographed, but we got restless and played paparazzi on each other...

a dash of lime

Cardigan: Avocado, SES
Dress: Paper Scissors
Shoes: Nine West, Nine West outlet
Bag: Marc by Marc Jacobs, eBay

These shoes were one of my purchases during my shopping spree yesterday at Birkenhead Point, the outlet mall. Originally $159, I got them on sale and deeply discounted for $27.30! I'd actually been eyeing them for over nine months, and I'm so glad I waited. A good bargain simply makes a purchase that much sweeter. :D

I adore the green-ness of these shoes! A reader asked me recently if I stick to a certain color palette because of my hair, and I'd never actually thought about it to before to be honest. When I did, though, I realized that I generally stick to warmer colors, like red, pink, orange, and yellow, because it complemented/clashed well with my hair. I had a quick look through my closet, and I noticed that I barely have any clothes in purple or green. So nowadays I'm making a concentrated effort on adding more of those colors to my wardrobe, and that's how I rationalized buying these shoes. :D

Another recent purchase evident in these photos is my new lens! I received the Pentax 35mm f/2.4 lens in the mail yesterday, and I've just been playing with it the entire time. Since it's such a small lens, it makes my camera so much lighter to carry, and my forearm thanks me for it. :) Also, the bokeh is gorgeous! Seriously, background blur seems to be the absolute pinnacle of style blogger achievement, and I'm glad I've finally reached that mythical stage with this lens. ;D

And a question for you guys: are there certain colors that you prefer to wear? Or any that you stay away from? Why? :)

acting upon nostalgia

Cardigan: Chicabooti
Skirt: Vintage '70s, Etsy
Shoes: Seychelles, Urban Outfitters

I'm currently having a love affair with big messy hair. It's perfect for casualizing what might otherwise be considered an overly put-together look. And this is how I get my hair to do what it does: in the morning I put it up into a tight french braid, which doesn't actually curl my hair, it just gives it some volume and texture. I take it out after about two hours, and comb it through with a dusting of Osis mattifying powder for a controlled bedhead look. And then, if I'm in the mood for even more volume (like today!), I'll tease my hair up at the crown and spray to hold it. It's my modern take on the '60s big hair. :D

Today I met one of my absolute favorite authors of my early adolescence, and now I'm pretty sure I can die happy. He was incredibly nice and personable, and he signed an entire bag full of books (at least 15!) for this one guy. I decided to be non-annoying and only brought two. :D Find out who I met and see pictures on Tumblr!

Today my mom and I took a day trip to Watsons Bay for what essentially turned out to be an extended photography session. These aren't really outfit pictures, just some random ones my mom took. :)

Here's a preview of what I took, check out the rest at my photoblog!
