I love my newly-thrifted skirt! As if the planets aligned, it's from my favorite decade, it fits me perfectly, and to top it off, it was only $3.50! Seriously, what are the chances? Definitely one of my best purchases. :D

So I decided to change up my editing techniques for outfit photos. I usually give them a sort of vintage effect where the blacks aren't so dark and the whites aren't so light. But doing that also mutes all the other shades...and kind of defeats the purpose of wearing super colorful outfits. I love the way these photos turned out, so these vivid colors will be back in future posts. :)

I'm supposed to be studying for Tuesday's politics final, and so this is what my life looks like at the moment:

I can't complain though, because it's fascinating stuff, and my marks have been unexpectedly decent...apparently the knowledge of Middle-Eastern politics is a skill that I can fake. ;D

opportunities and potential

I took these shoes out for a spin today, and at 4", they're a pretty comfortable height, but after wearing them for several hours, my toes were beginning to get squished. You know when your feet slide forward a little every time you take a step? There are no words to adequately convey how much I absolutely loathe that feeling! The sad thing is, to me, these shoes are worth it and I'll happily brave the pain. :D

The other day while I was walking to class, I caught a girl trying to surreptiously take a picture of me on her phone. The operative word here is 'trying,' because she was being pretty obvious about it. Look back on it now, I should've taken advantage of the potential advertising opportunity: "If you want pictures of me, you can visit my blog, notwithoutincident.net! New posts daily!" Haha, oh wow, if I could redo that moment... :D

a package

A couple weeks ago, I won a giveaway hosted by the lovely Sophi of Oh So Sophi, and the prize was that she would thrift for me, based on my style and all the things I like. I'm so happy to have won what is, in my opinion, pretty much the most original and creative giveaway that anyone could think of. I was so excited when her package arrived yesterday!

She gave me: an oversized mustard cardigan, a striped button-up shirt, a short-sleeve blouse that buttons on the shoulder, a floral midi skirt, lip balms, tea bags, a gorgeous photograph, and a sweet little note.


I've never owned a midi skirt that I didn't immediately chop up into a mini, but after trying on this one, I don't think I'll need to take my scissors to it. It's light and flowing in the very best way, it'll be perfect for summer, and I know I can pull it off in some giant platforms.


And these two blouses, which I'm so excited to wear!


This is now on my wall. :)

i promise you gold

Bad hair day? Just stick a hat on it! By now I'm so used to having teased hair that it's a little bit unsettling to see myself without it. How on earth will I cope when I go back to black hair?! Because I've resigned myself to the fact that, for the sake of maturity, employability, and all that other silliness, once I graduate uni, I can't have blue hair anymore. But this means I've still got a good year and a half left to revel in the blue-ness, and I suppose by that time, a six-year run of crazy-colored hair wouldn't be such a shabby addition to my list of accomplishments. :D

The uni semester's nearly over, and that means a complete overload of tests coming up very very soon! I have my politics final and four (!) French tests in the next three weeks. I've prepared myself for the stress because once it's done, I'll have nearly two months of holidays!

The title of the post is a lyric from Blue October's "For My Brother," one of my favorite songs from one of my favorite bands. I've been thinking about getting a tattoo as an end-of-semester present to myself, of the full line, Believe you can shine when you're silver and I promise you gold, in three lines of tiny text on the inside of my wrist. I've wanted a tattoo since I was 13, but it's such a big commitment, and I'm indecisive to a fault, so I guess I'll have to get back to you on it. :)

brand new pretties

Zara opened in Sydney about a month ago, and I got my first opportunity to visit it today. And so of course I couldn't leave without a souvenir. :)

I haven't decide yet whether I think they're frumpy or understatedly elegant...maybe both? Either way, they're perfectly '70s, and they'll look great paired with the rest of my '70s wardrobe.

a day at the markets

Cropped cardigans are my favorite type of cover-ups, but sadly it's not so easy to find nice ones, and because of that, I only own a few. So I decided to improvise the cropped-ness with this cardigan, and I like the effect -- it's inspiring me to try it with my other full length ones.

Today Angie and I did some shopping at various thrift stores and the Rozelle Markets. It was my first time to the Markets, a place where they sold essentially secondhand everything, and despite the clutter, I really enjoyed it.

Recently I've been drawn to longer skirts. I used to avoid knee-length skirts because I felt that they stumpified my legs, but I find that wearing heels with them really helps to cancel out that effect. So I bought these two today, and I can't wait to style them up!

This is just the cutest pastel-yellow babydoll dress, and it was an absolute steal! Bargains like this are a constant reminder of why I love thrifting.

I bought the silk blouse on a whim -- I saw it, and it was mine before I even had a chance to try it on. I like that it's cropped; it'll encourage me to broaden my horizons and explore a world in which tops don't have to tucked in. :)


Wittner wood & suede sandals, $20 (used clothing boutique)

I don't think the picture does these shoes any justice, and I do admit, they do look kind of silly when they're not being worn. When I saw them on the rack, my first thought was 'gladiatior sandals' and I snickered to myself. I tried them on as a joke (as you do)...and they looked shockingly nice! Angie said that they had a vague '20s vibe, and I agree. I'll show you how amazing they are in a future outfit post!

All in all, I think the rapture should happen more often, because today was an amazing day for both shopping and new experiences. ;D
