like summer

ASOS dress / Topshop sandals / Barkins sunglasses

Here's me dressing light on Monday because it was 30 degrees! Sadly, the nice hot weather's disappeared and been replaced by dull and dreary rain. I'm really looking forward to summer, if only for consistent sunshine! :)

There's some sad/annoying news about this dress: I tossed it in the washing mashine, and it came out with laundry stains! Navy splotches all over the skirt, which I tried getting out with detergent and soap-scrubbing. I was so desperate that I ended up using that stuff you bleach the tiles with! And it actually worked pretty well -- it got most of the stains out, and there's only a faint trace of blue on the floral embroidery. It's not very noticeable but I'm anal retentive, so I'm on the lookout for fabric dye; the next time I wear this dress, it'll be purple! :)

SONG OF THE MOMENT | The Airborne Toxic Event - 'All I Ever Wanted'

I can tell you that you're all I ever wanted, dear
And I can utter every word you'd ever hope to hear
I shudder when I think that I might not be here forever, forever, forever

This song puts me through an emotional gauntlet. There's no other way to describe it. Heart-rending lyrics, frantically sorrowful instrumentals...tear my heart out with this song, and I wouldn't even mind. My favorite 'song of the moment' thus far.

movie talk

So I've been a laazy blogger! Although I can't apologize for spending all last week working on two politics essays (20 pages total!) that I finally handed in yesterday. Such a great weight lifted! I'm so relieved that my next assignment isn't due for another...11 days. Because when you're forced to write two essays in five days, 11 days is an absolute luxury in comparison. :D

I've got a new addiction: zombie apocalypse! It's not a genre that I've ever really taken seriously, but I downloaded the first episode of 'The Walking Dead' on a whim, and it's just taken off from there. I've just finished 28 Days Later, and am currently on 28 Weeks Later...

I've never been very interested horror/slasher movies, because (I know this might come off a little snobbish) I don't want to watch a movie for the sole purpose of seeing people get killed in ridiculous and/or fantastical way; I simply want to get more out of it. Movies with human conflict, difficult choices, thought-provoking or uncomfortable questions, morally ambiguous behavior backed by the very best intentions.

That's why I'm so fascinated with 'The Walking Dead' and 28 Days Later. They retain that human drama, and there's a genuine poignancy that you don't really find in horror films. I also appreciate that they recognize the fact that in frightening circumstances, the monsters aren't the only things we end up fearing...sometimes we're our own worst enemy.

So I realize that this has nothing to do with outfit photos, but it's something that's been on my mind late, and I felt like sharing. :)

(And I'd love some good zombie film recs if you have them!)

gibson girls

Avocado cardigan / Temt top / Glassons skirt / thrifted Wittner shoes

Of course I bought the skirt! ;D For some girls it's makeup, and for others it's shoes, but skirts are my biggest weakness. I can talk myself out of buying just about anything, but if I see a skirt that I absolutely adore, there's no contest, it's coming home with me.

I first saw this skirt on a mannequin in the shop window about fifty feet away, gasped, and sprinted. The only one in my size was actually on the display mannequin, so the sales assistant had to take it off for me. I felt a little guilty for her efforts, but...the skirt! Long story short, it fit me perfectly, and now it's mine. :D

I've been seeing the Gibson tuck online a lot lately, so I thought I'd give it a shot. I love easy things that look difficult, and this hairstyle is no different. I like the added interest of my black hair with the blue. Here's the tutorial I used.

While I was at the bus stop this morning, an old lady came up to me and told me how beautiful I looked! "That skirt, and those shoes! You look absolutely lovely!" She asked me where I was going in such a fancy outfit, I replied, "Uni," and she exclaimed, "I thought you were going to lunch!" She marveled at how high my heels were, saying that when she was younger, she used to wear shoes with the big platforms, "but nothing as high as yours!" Ahaha, the power of a compliment! It made my day. :)

candy-colored summer

So many assignments, so little time! Here's what the next seven days look like: a French writing task due this Thursday, and two 2000-word essays due next Monday (neither of which I've remotely even looked at).

I went to Mac Center to do a little stress shopping ;) and came away with this lookbook. It's so funny to me, I've been going to uni, which is a five minutes' walk from this shopping center, for nearly two years, and I can count on one hand the number of times I've stepped foot in Glassons. But today, the display window was a venerable explosion of pastel shades, and I couldn't resist!

I adore the vintage-inspired styling, it's impeccable yet playful! There's no place for somberness in a summer lookbook! :D

I did end up buying one of the items pictured above; it's actually the first time in a loong while that I've bought clothing from an actual brick-and-mortar store, and for full price too! I'll debut it on the blog tomorrow, but right now I'm signing off for bed. :D

a colorblock extravaganza

Chicabooti cardigan / thrifted Witchery top / ASOS skirt & socks / Valleygirl belt / Mossimo shoes

I haven't really had anything super-exciting happen to me recently, so I thought I'd share some random facts...

I'm 5'2". This means I've grown all of five inches (!) in the past eight years. I used to be so self-conscious about my (lack of) height, because everybody who was my age or older positively towered over me. Because you know what was awkward? Having to craaaaane my head up just to be able to look someone in the face.

Nowadays it's not such a big deal, because I'm finally somewhat within the spectrum of average height. And on days that I want to be a little taller, a pair of heels fixes that in a cinch. :D

The first color I remember ever verbalizing as my 'favorite' was orange. I was six years old, and our conversation topics had never been more profound. Since then, I've had flings with other colors, but ultimately, my heart comes back to orange. I have a camera, headphones, a bedsheet set, two pairs of shoes, and countless pieces of clothing in various shades of orange, and I'm constantly on the lookout for even more citrus-y goodness. :D

I have hay fever. If I could change anything about my body, it would most definitely be this! I'm allergic to pretty much all of nature, and I never go out without a travel-pack of tissues. It's something that I've lived and struggled with my entire life, and it really sucks all the enjoyment out of whatever fun thing I'm doing because I'm too busy sneezing and snotting up endless wads of tissues.

The only reason I survived this photoshoot was because we were only there for a total of ten minutes. Oh, the things I do for this blog! :D

miniature houndstooth

Avocado cardigan / Etam Weekend top / ASOS shorts & socks / Mossimo shoes

I love these shorts! ASOS calls it a skort, but I think they look more like super-voluminous bloomers without the cinchy bit at the leg opening. Or palazzo pant cutoffs. They also have the cute vintage look of rompers but without the added stress of what-to-do-when-you-need-to-go-to-the-bathroom! And how does that work, exactly? I'm a bit iffy about getting completely undressed to go to the bathroom, but is that what people have to do when they wear rompers? Clueless and completely inappropriate, that's me! :D

It feels like only yesterday that I handed in my last philosophy assignment. I'm freaking out a little because the next one's due on Wednesday! So it'll be a short entry for today...

SONG OF THE MOMENT // Cœur de Pirate - "Comme des Enfants"

Et il m'aime encore, et moi, je t'aime un peu plus fort...

The photo above: it's my slip! I don't wear saggy granny panties! ;D That's just me being too lazy to photoshop it out, haha!
