fair day bump-in

I just got back from my first day of volunteering for Mardi Gras! Here's a picture I snatched from their Facebook page. Yes, that's me in jeans and an American Eagle polo. What can I say? With all the dressy things that I wear, conventional is my personal brand of rebellion. And the fact that it was a $5 eBay find doesn't hurt either. ;)

We helped set up the infrastructure for this weekend's fair day. Here are some of the things we did:

Sat around doing absolutely nothing;

Set up a barricade fence;

Cooked a sausage sizzle for the contractors (150+ sausages!);

Made sure the tents were in the right positions and moved them if they weren't;

Other random bits of manual labor.

My next volunteer day isn't for another two weeks, and I'm already looking forward to it! Even though we don't get paid, sometimes it's just nice to feel like a marginally useful and/or productive member of society. And and and -- free sausage sizzle! :D
